Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Aurebesh?
Just how we would say, "the English alphabet," this is the Galactic Basic Aurebesh. Where Lego Bionicle has Matoran and Lord of the Rings has runes, Star Wars has Aurebesh. Aurebesh is a simple (although sometimes confused for Japanese) writing system for Galactic Basic. There is not really a way to speak Basic, because anything said in English is the same as Basic, but the writing is different. Because so many people throughout the galaxy use technology of some kind, it may not have been designed to be easy to write (although a number of us do write with it). For reasons I can’t quite explain, Aurebesh is not well known, not even by strong Star Wars fans. While there isn’t a hardcore fanbase for Aurebesh, many fans will develop artwork, messages, and communities of Aurebesh reading individuals. There are things from rings to propaganda posters. If you decide to join this group of people, you may want to check out the following site to find out more information: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Aurebesh
  • What are some online resources available?
That, my friend, is a long answer. There are various resources available, but they're not often found in one place. Here are some suggestions and links to help you find some help reading Aurebesh. There is a simple Aurebesh translator to use. The Aurebesh Trainer by OontiniCast works phenomenally well as a word trainer. While the flashcards on Memrise are also great, OontiniCast’s resource is simple, quick to use, and incredibly broad in its selection of words. Dendory gives a few examples of Aurebesh phrases and it offers a short letter quiz. Even something as simple as pulling up pictures online and practicing your vocab with that is a great place to start. Not only does that method help you read, but also show you what people will do with Aurebesh.
  • Why can't I see a new chapter?
I am not particularly a fast writer. With that in mind, the simplest reason could be that I just haven't finished writing, editing, and polishing a new story. You can go to the Broken Barriers page to see what chapters I have available on the PDF viewer.
